Xuefei Yang’s Highlights:

  • 1977: Born in Beijing, China.
  • 1987: Debut at the first Chinese International Guitar Festival.
  • 1988: Second Prize at the Beijing Senior Guitar Competition.
  • 1989: Tokyo debut. Special award by the Guitar Alliance of Japan.
  • 1991: Madrid debut.
  • 2000: Become the first Chinese guitarist to study in the United Kingdom, and the first guitarist ever to receive an international scholarship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for her postgraduate program at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Michael Lewin, John Mills, and Timothy Walker. First prize in the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award by the City of London’s Worshipful Company of Musicians.
  • 2002: Graduated with distinction, achieved a Recital Diploma and received the Royal Academy of Music Principal’s Prize for an exceptional all-round studentship. Dorothy Grinstead Prize for a recital at Fairfield Hall, Croydon. Second Prize at the San Francisco International Guitar Competition, USA.
  • 2003: Performed at 54 concerts for the “Night of the Proms Tour,” in front of a total audience of over 800,000 people.
  • 2006: Her album Romance de Amor (EMI Classics) achieved a Gold disc in Hong Kong.
  • 2008: Her album 40 Degrees North (EMI Classics) was selected as Gramophone Editor’s Choice.
  • 2012: Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Music.
  • 2015: Artistic director of Changsha International Guitar Festival.
